Hebrew at BJEP
Language is one foundation of Jewish culture. In addition to weaving Hebrew songs, phrases and vocabulary throughout classroom instruction, we dedicate time every Sunday to dedicated Hebrew language instruction.
In grades K/1-2 we focus on letter recognition and decoding.
In grades 3-6 we emphasize modern vocabulary and Hebrew prayers, learning to interpret what they mean as we learn to sing and read.
Grades 3-6 meet for 30 minutes in small groups based on age and experience. This is a unique and effective model for language acquisition that supports and challenge each students learning style and skill set. Grades 3&4 and 5&6 are mixed within the small groups, allowing from more cross-pollination between the grades and classes.
All of our classes includes 10 minutes of Hebrew Through Movement, an interactive aural method for teaching Hebrew vocabulary and language.
